1999 C5 Corvette Forum For the first time ever, the Chevrolet Corvette is available in three different body styles... the coupe with removable targa roof, the Corvette convertible, and the new for 1999 hardtop model which is the first fixed-roof Corvette in over thirty years. As the least expensive model, the hardtop's restricted option list has been tailored to appeal to those buyers who are interested in a simpler, more performance-oriented Corvette, with the 6-Speed Manual Transmission and Z51 Performance Handling Package as standard features. New options introduced for 1999 included the Heads Up Display, Twilight Sentinel, and Power Telescopic Steering Column. The Hardtop is about 80 pounds lighter than the Coupe and it's chassis is nearly 12% stiffer than the Coupe's (with targa roof installed).
